In an interview recently released on Forbes’ official website, Kim Nam-gil told the story of the original TVing series “Ireland,” and the representative and actor Kim Nam-gil of Culture and Arts NGO Gil Story and Gil Story ENT.

Kim Nam-gil said, “Ban is the first fantasy character in my filmography,” and added, “I think ‘Ireland’ is the most intense fantasy genre made based on Korean folklore among the works that live-action Korean original cartoons. So I was glad to hear that it would be live-action as a big fan of the original, and I wondered how the story would be portrayed. “I think the fact that I was a fan of the original will explain everything more than anything else,” he said.

Regarding the fantasy action first introduced through “Ireland,” Kim Nam-gil said, “There is a clear difference between the action shown in the work and the action of “Ireland.” “There were many works made with VFX and CG, but it was an interesting experience because it was the first time I relied on CG for ‘movement’ itself to do action,” he explained.

“I think actors need more imagination when they play fantasy genres. “I think I rely a lot on the director, VFX, and the action team because the design of the big picture comes from the director,” he said. “I studied the action scenes to increase the synchronization with the original cartoon, and practiced following the movements to express the actions drawn in the cartoon.”

Kim Nam-gil also said about the fantasy character “Ban,” which he first played, “I think the first thing is to express and act ‘humanity’ whether he is immortal or ordinary.” “Ban” is a human and monster, “Half human and half human”, and it is an attractive character in that he is a supernatural being. In the original work, it is not well explained what kind of character he is, but he added the narrative that the character has within the drama’s tolerance, such as the pain he has and why he lives like that.”

Finally, Kim Nam-gil, who directly managed a non-profit organization as the CEO of Culture and Arts NGO Gil Story since 2015 and founded Gil Story ENT based on his experience of creating social impact through various global public arts campaigns, said, “Gil Story ENT is a comprehensive entertainment company that combines new management systems and IP businesses. “We are growing into a global company that encompasses artist management, content production such as movies and dramas, and IP business as a whole,” he said, explaining the reason for its establishment.

“Ireland” Part 2, starring Kim Nam-gil, will be released on February 24th and is set to release the films “Guardian” and “Night Trip.” Kim Nam-gil, who is in the midst of filming Netflix’s original series “The Bandit: The Sound of the Knife,” plans to continue his performance as an “icon of hard work” this year.
