Vietnam League VCS Cancels Summer…Two teams to be selected for the League of Legends World Championship.
The 2021 VCS Summer, the Vietnam League of Legends, will be canceled after a long delay.
According to officials familiar with VCS, the 2021 VCS Summer, which had been postponed for various reasons, will be canceled, but will find a way to select two Vietnamese teams to participate in the 2021 League of Legend World Championship.
There are four reasons why VCS Summer is canceled. First of all, even if VCS, which has been postponed for a long time, hosts a single-game league from now on, it will be difficult to follow the schedule of other leagues. The second is due to the coronavirus situation in Vietnam. Third, I didn’t get a license to host an online competition.
The fourth reason is that the contract issue between Vietnamese LoL publisher Garena and Riot Games has not been resolved.
Details of the contract have not been made public, but Garrena and Riot Games’ contract for the tournament will expire at the end of this summer. If the two companies do not renew their contracts, Riot Games will operate themselves starting next year’s 2022 VCS Spring.
With the cancellation of the VCS Summer, Riot Games Vietnam and Garrena also said they are discussing how to select two teams to participate in the 2021 Rolled Cup. There are two ways that are being mentioned.
It is a way to select GAM eSports, which won the 2021 VCS Spring, and Saigon Buffalo, the runner-up team, as the representative of the League of Legends World Championship, or to play between the top four teams with the best results in the spring.
If Vietnam fails to participate in the League of Vietnam, it is expected to have a significant impact on the development of the Vietnamese league by absent three international competitions in a row from last year’s League of Legends. The Vietnamese league failed to host this summer, resulting in a sharp drop in profits and profits from advertising and sponsorship activities.
